Princess of Barsoom (3rd WIP)

This is the third revision of my "Princess of Barsoom" HeroMachine cover, with changes based upon the last two. As jrrRichardson pointed out, John Carter should have close-cropped hair and I gave him long hair, orginally. Over on Facebook, someone complained that I'd given him a loin cloth. All he should be wearing is his "harness", for hanging weapons, pouches and the like. So I reworked his outfit. I did, I will admit, follow the lead of just about every illustrator for the ERB stories having it cover his privates. In part, that was to preserve a certain sense of modesty of our Virginian gentleman, as I did with Dejah Thoris's jewelry. In addition, a warrior doesn't particularly want to be unnecessarily vulnerable during combat. John also has acquired a bit more of a tan.

As I said in the first revision, I had been thinking about Edgar Rice Burroughs, and started toying around with his characters using Hero Machine 3. Tarzan led into John Carter, Dejah Thoris, and Tars Tarkas. I went for moderately authentic costuming, so I guess this requires a "Mature Content" label. The green Martian came out a little heftier than I intended, but it was a trade-off against keeping the limbs look proportional, especially his crossed arms. After some review comments, I lengthened the distance between his two sets of arms. I've also changed the shading of Dejah Thoris's skin. ERB described it as a "light reddish copper color", and the first version while "light" seemed rather too pink to be described as "reddish copper".
